It is my duty to embed in the mind of each student the importance of setting goals and achieving them, because educators are creators and molders of dreams.  Just as each teacher in my life helped and are continuing to help mold my most precious desires, I want to be the artist in the life of others.  I want to paint a picture of hope, a picture of determination, and then paint the most beautiful picture of all- a student that thought they could and did.

Hello! My name is Crystal Benson and I am from New Brockton, Alabama. I graduated with honors from New Brockton High School in 1999. After graduation I attended Troy University. In 2002, I obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Broadcast Journalism, with a minor in Business Administration.  After graduating, I began substitute teaching at New Brockton Elementary School. My passion for education truly ignited. In August of 2003, I returned to Troy University to obtain a Master’s Degree in Education.

August 2005, at the end of my coursework, I was granted the opportunity to complete my student teaching internship with the Aldine Independent School District in Houston, Texas. I used the experiences I obtained in previous jobs to assist me as I taught in both a second and a fourth grade class.

Friday, December 9, 2005, I graduated from Troy University with a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education. Monday, December 11, 2005, I began my first day as a third grade inclusion and gifted and talented teacher at Smith Academy in Houston, Texas. I continued teaching third grade at Smith Academy until May 2007.

May 2007, I moved back home to New Brockton.  Briefly after moving, I was granted the opportunity to become a third grade teacher at New Brockton Elementary School.  I taught third grade at N.B.E.S. for four years. I was moved to first grade, where I taught for two years.  Now I've returned to third grade.  Time has swiftly progressed, and I am overjoyed to begin my nineth year of teaching at New Brockton Elementary School!

I also enjoyed coaching at New Brockton High School. I had the pleasure of coaching New Brockton's JV Cheerleaders, and co-coaching the New Brockton's Varsity Cheerleaders for four years.  I served two years as the Head Coach of New Brockton's JV Girls Basketball Team, and one year as the assistant coach for the Varstiy Girls Basketball Team.  I'm blessed to have the opportunity to serve in various capacities.  I'm the youth director at my church,  an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., Delta Kappa Gamma teaching society,  Club Yesepoch of Enterprise, the CCYL Steering Committee, and N.B.H.S. Alumni Board.  In my spare time I enjoy traveling, shopping,  going to movies, plays/theater, swimming, reading, and watching sporting events. My favorite athletic pasttimes include supporting the New Brockton Gamecocks, and the Troy University Trojans.

I'm married, and I have one son, Cason, who is the light of my life.
