About Mrs. Koonce
My name is Alicia Koonce and this is my 4th year as the Reading Specialist at New Brockton Elementary. I previously taught 1st grade for 11 years. I am very excited to share my love of reading and my passion for teaching with the students and teachers at NBES.
Late in life I realized it was time to fulfill my dream of becoming a teacher and in just 4 years, not only did I complete my BS in Elementary Education but completed my Masters degree as well. I completed my internship at Goshen Elementary in Pike County and was then hired with the Dothan City School system where I taught 1st grade for 4 years at Girard Elementary. During my 2nd year of teaching I was selected as Teacher of the Year by my peers, an accomplishment I am truly proud of. I then moved to Zion Chapel where I taught 1st grade for 7 years before accepting my position as a reading coach in February of 2020.
On a personal note, I married the love of my life, Sam, on a cruise to Grand Cayman Island in April of 2015! Together we have 11 beautiful children and 4 precious grandchildren. Family keeps us very busy. I am extremely active in my church and in my spare time I love small group bible studies, going to the beach and spending time with family.
I am honored to be at NBES to provide support and a love of reading to the NBES Community!
